Functional training has its origins in rehabilitation. Physical and Occupational therapists often use this approach to re-train patients with movement disorders. This is designed to incorporate tasks and context specific practices in areas meaningful to each patient, with an overall goal of functional independence. For example, exercises that mimic what patients did at home or work may be included in treatment in order to help them return to their lives or jobs after an injury or surgery. Thus if a patient’s job required repeatedly heavy lifting, rehabilitation would be targeted towards heavy lifting, if the patient were a parent of young children, it would be targeted towards moderate lifting and endurance, and if the patient were a marathon runner, training would be targeted towards re-building endurance.

Prefer to work out with friends? We understand! Thats why we offer Group Training. Active at home welcomes and encourages all groups of friends, coworkers, and family members to understand the importance of Personal Training. We live in a very busy world, group training is an affordable alternative to individual training and allows people to come together for one hour of fitness.
Monthly, Active at home will be hosting a free public bootcamp with training advice from multiple distinguished trainers. This is a great way to sample our training and invite family and friends to enjoy great music, exercise and fun.

My programs have a proven record of helping older adults with maintaining, improving and building a healthy lifestyle.
I started my wellness journey in January and have lost 42 pounds over the last year. 32 pounds of them were prior to August when I started working out with Akeem Carter. The dramatic difference in the last four a half months has been unbelievable! I have more compliments the longer I work out and the more weight I lose! Akeem has changed my life! I gave birth to my first child in August 2009 and had always been very physically fit prior to my pregnancy, without having to work out. I gained 65-70 pounds during my pregnancy and went from a size 3/4 to a size 14/16. I was absolutely devastated. I returned to the gym with a horrible attitude as I was very unhappy with my appearance and how I felt. It took all I had to walk on the tread mill and I had never trained with weights in my life. After attending a boot camp group class with Akeem as the Instructor, I became passionate about working out. I began training with him shortly after and my body and mind was transformed instantaneously. I now have a mindset of “I can do anything I put my mind to” as a result of working out with Akeem. His positive energy and encouragement made me absolutely love working out and to this day, I am not the same if I don’t work out consistently on a weekly basis. Some ask why spend the money on personal training if you look great now? My response: because it is absolutely, 100% worth it! Akeem is able to take my fitness to a new level each time we work out and never once pushes me to the point where I don’t enjoy every minute of it. I am now back to a size 3/4 and lift things I never imagined would be possible. Thank you, Akeem for helping me achieve my fitness goals. I would never consider not working out with him! After a bicycling accident I struggled with back pain for six years. Akeem worked with me to strengthen the my core and alleviate the problem. One month of working with Akeem and the pain has ceased.
